The Cross-Kultural Kaleidoscope in Action 1

THE CHALLENGE: An Italian woman who had moved to Paris, France felt strong emotions surrounding her move, her work, and her personal life.

THE SOLUTION: Using the Cross-Cultural Kaleidoscope, she was able to examine mmultiple dimensions of her situation. Take elements of the model one at a time, the client was able to understand how the different factors were influencing her mental and emotional state

THE RESULTS: An Italian woman had moved to Paris, France. Choosing the family/community lens she shared how she felt she had to justify leaving home as she felt guilty. This was represented by extreme working hours as if she was ‘married to her job’. She next chose the economics lens as representing success in her chosen career. When she moved into the centre of the Kaleidoscope to examine her cultural self she declared herself an independent young Italian woman, working and living in Paris on her own terms. This work enabled her to accept what she was moving away from and what she was moving towards in a process of personal transformation.
